Establishing Care

Me: Hi Ms. M, I’m Dr Olabintan nice to meet you!

Ms M: Hi Dr O, nice to meet you as well

Me: So I see you’re here to establish care

Ms M; oh yes I am …
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

We discuss last labs, timing of last check up
Review medications…

Then I ask

Why did you come here for your care?

Ms M: I’m switching doctors

Me: why? If you don’t mind ..

Ms M; Oh why do you wanna know?

Me: Oh.. so we don’t make the same mistakes that chased you away and also so we can see if we can offer you what you’re looking for in a primary care office

Ms M: I see…Well, I felt like they didn’t listen to me

I didn’t feel heard

Felt like a number

All they wanted to do is shove medications down my throat…

Me: Well, we care about our patients

… Clear throat …

We also nudge you to make better health decisions … repeatedly..

We combine medications (backed by science) AND encourage life style changes to help you live long and well

Ms M: I like that. Sounds like work though

Me: well… yes, to limit need for medications will take work on your part as well…

It’s a team effort

.
.
.

We talk … exercise (written on a prescription pad)
We talk … therapy (will consider meds as needed)

.
.
.
.

Ms M: (grinning inside)

Me: I look forward to this partnership!

Ms M: it’s really nice meeting you doc!
