In a recent live session, Dr. Tolulope Olabintan sat down with Dr. Megan Tierney—board-certified Family & Obesity Medicine physician, Menopause Society–certified practitioner, and founder of Sorrel Health & Wellness in Seattle to break down metabolic health in plain language.
And honestly?
This conversation was the kind that makes you pause and say,
“Wait… that’s me.”
Dr. Tierney explained it in the simplest way:
Think of your body like a car.
Metabolic health is how well your “engine” uses the “fuel” you give it.
The fuel = the food you eat
The engine = your muscles and organs that need energy
When metabolic health is working well, your body uses fuel efficiently.
When it’s not, you may feel like you’re running on fumes—even when you’re “doing all the right things.”
This is where the session got painfully relatable (in the best way).
Dr. Tierney shared common real-life clues that metabolic health might need support:
You wake up tired, even after sleeping
You crash after lunch
You struggle to focus or concentrate
You wake up at night (sometimes without realizing it)
You’re often hangry (“If I don’t eat now, I might yell at someone”
